Barney

 

Barney, a St. Bernard pup only 9 months old, was handed in to us by his owner.
 
He stank, his coat was dirty and dull.  His back legs and front legs were covered in what the vet thinks could be mange.  His feet were so swollen and inflamed he could hardly walk on them and kept stumbling.  The vet thinks the mange was aggravated by urine scald, which is usually caused by being kept in very dirty conditions.
 
Barney was in so much pain the vet had to anaesthetise him to examine him.  He took skin scrapings, blood tests and X rays of all his joints.
 
He is much better now.  He is underweight, but his skin is now cleaner and he has stopped biting himself and scratching. 
 
The photographs below were taken three days after we started his treatment and already a big difference is to be seen.
